Summer Camp Scholarships
All members of the York Junior Symphony Orchestra are eligible for a Summer Music Camp Scholarship. Scholarship winners must adhere to the York Junior Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Camp Scholarship Rules and Regulations or forfeit such an award.
Members must submit an application prior to date of audition. See schedule for application deadline and date of auditions.
Applicants must have excellent attendance.(Attendance and Absences will be taken into account in awarding a scholarship).
Scholarships will be awarded for admission to music camps and programs which are reviewed and approved by the YJSO Board prior to scholarship auditions.
The YJSO Board shall determine the amount and number of scholarships based on funds available and shall have the option to award full scholarships, partial scholarships, or both.
The summer camp selected should be primarily orchestral, with an emphasis on classical orchestra performance. The goal should be to strengthen the musician's skills on his/her primary instrument.
If the Scholarship Award amount is greater than the tuition fee for the camp, then the non-used dollars will be retained by the YJSO.
The musician must play the instrument at camp that was played for the scholarship audition.
All scholarship recipients are required to continue at least one additional year with the York Youth Symphony or the YJSO. The student auditioning for one of these Symphonies and accepting an appointment if awarded fulfills this requirement. Students who audition and are not selected will not be in violation of this rule. Failure to adhere to any rules will result in forfeiture of the scholarship money.
An individual is eligible for only one scholarship during his/her membership with the YJSO.
Scholarship applicants shall be tested as follows:
(a) PREPARED SOLO–Student's choice
(b) SCALES–Judge's choice
(c) A SELECTION FROM THE ORCHESTRA MUSIC Will be Chosen–Judge's choice
Scholarship recipients will receive a check from the YJSO made payable to the specified music camp. The check can be sent directly to the camp from YJSO.
Information for local music camps will be provided by the YJSO Board when available.
Judges will be selected by the conductor and assistant conductor.
Award of the scholarships will be the responsibility of the directors and conductor with YJSO Board approval.

This list is not meant as a recommendation nor as a comprehensive list, but as a growing compilation of some options. Be sure to check specific information.
